Mother for Social Justice

Rev. Harriett Walden has been called "Mother," by many people, not only by her four sons. She is an honored "Mother" in Seattle's African American community, where she is widely known as a respected elder. Harriett founded the organization Mothers for Police Accountability in 1990 to educate parents and others affected by excessive police practices in the Seattle community. She instituted the Year of Prayer, and a mentoring program for parents in helping children with their homework. "Mother" Walden, a Master Facilitator for TheVirtues Project, infuses virtues into everything she does. Her lifelong journey as a champion for social justice has been walked with love, truth telling, strength, compassion, and wisdom.
Rev. LaVerne Hall of Seattle, has said this in tribute to Rev. Walden:
"For this particular once-a-year recognition and celebration of mothers, I salute you for adopting, as well, the community, men, women, and young ones as your children. Your willing work, powerful and pronounced voice throughout this community rings with the Tempo of Eternity; a symphony of words, actions, and deeds unlike any others that have been heard and felt; a concerted effort for good and not evil, choreographed for timelessness.

In your work with social justice issues, Mothers for Police Accountability, civil & women’s rights advocacy, and your radio ministry, you certainly personify the traits and attributes of the 19th century abolitionist, evangelist, and orator, Sojourner Truth nee Isabella Baumfree. She certainly knew and believed that the Lord was her shepherd. My belief is that you too, know and believe that the Lord is your shepherd.
On behalf of Celebrating Women in Ministry, thanks for all you do, lifting, pushing and pulling as you go, standing up, speaking out, shouting out when necessary; “rolling the stone away” for so many others.
Thank you!
Rev. Dr. LaVerne C. Hall

Mama Virtues

"Mama Virtues," Linda Kavelin-Popov is the mother of TheVirtues Project™, and she has been the willing midwife to this miraculous project that has now spread to 120 countries. Her teaching and mentoring of thousands of people around the world has inspired, instructed, and changed hearts and minds of parents, teachers, individuals and communities to be more loving, caring, joyful and service-oriented. Her dedication and service to indigenous communities has inspired healing and honor, often allowing indigenous people to be restored to their virtues and traditional values. Linda and her husband Dan (Papa Dan) live a life of service.
Linda is the author six books: The Family Virtues Guide, Sacred Moments, The Virtues Project Educator's Guide, A Pace of Grace, Graceful Endings and A Scent of Sage. She's also written four versions of the Virtues Cards that have brought the virtues and the five strategies of The Virtues Project to life. Linda's courage, discernment and wisdom in her own healing from serious illness gave rise to the book, A Pace of Grace, which has guided people to restorative practices of health, relationships and spirituality. Linda's many retreats and workshops have encouraged and taught women and men to find the loving parent within, and often to re-parent themselves with forgiveness, self-care, and love.
